Belly Casting with Birthing Choices
1.What is a belly cast? Well, belly casts are a fun and unique way to document you pregnancy! The cast shows how your pregnant belly looked at that exact time in the pregnancy. Casts are fun ways to show your children how you looked when they were in your belly!
2.What is used for the cast? I use medical quality plaster bandages for the cast. They are easy and fast drying, which helps to make the process more comfortable.
3.What will I do with the cast after it is done? Most people who get belly casts done use them as a decoration in their homes. They are paint-able and some use decoupage for accent. Ribbon can be used as both a decoration and also to help make them able to be hung on a wall.
4. How long does the process take? The casting is actually the easiest and fastest part of the process. With set up and prep time, the casting is dry and able to be removed from the body within 10-15 minutes after the last strip is placed. I will then take the cast home to let fully dry, and then sand and prime it. Then I can either return to you for decoration, or I can help start that process for you.
5. How are some ways to decorate it? One example, and one of my favorites is painting it a solid color and then when the baby arrives, putting their hand and feet prints on the cast! This is really cute! The baby’s name and statistics are also a great way to decorate it! You could also decoupage pictures of you pregnant, pictures of baby, and maybe a poem! It is totally up to you! This is a personal aspect of it, and it will be different for every one!
6. Where is the casting done? I like to do the casting in the comfort of your own home! I find this to be the best atmosphere for casting.
7. What do I need to have ready when you come over? I bring everything for the casting. The casting can be quite messy, so you may want some extra towels handy. I also suggest warming your home up a bit before the process starts, so you won’t get too chilly! If sitting is more comfortable for you, we would need a simple and sturdy chair. Also get ready to have some fun and to take pictures for you baby book!

This is a cast of a mom at 30 weeks. Since they do not yet know the gender of baby, they have choosen to finish decorating after the birth. This cast just has two coats of primer and a green ribbon.
This cast is of a mom that was 38 weeks along. They had know that the baby was a girl, so I decorated with prinks and purples. The baby's first initial is a S, so I monogrammed the cast. I also added a white organdy ribbon and coordinating silk flowers.
A great touch that some parents choose to add to their casts are other family members hands! This cast has dad's hand too! It is a sweet addition with the hands of older siblings too! These parents are going to have me spakle and paint white, then add their son's name. They told me that they will add his feet after he is born. I will add the picture of the final cast when done.
